Of all the fertilizer applications you will make in a paddy season‚ none matters more than the first one․ The basal dose, which is applied just before or at transplanting, sets the stage for the nutrients the paddy's roots will be growing into for the next several weeks․ Get it right‚ and you can achieve strong early tillering and a healthy root system from day one․

Which Fertilizers Should Be Applied in Basal Dose?
1. Phosphatic fertilizers
Phosphorus is critical at the basal stage because it supports early root development. It moves very slowly in flooded soil, so placing it all in the early root zone before transplanting helps seedlings easily access it.

Common Basal Dose Mistakes Paddy Farmers Make
1. Mixing Zinc Sulphate directly with DAP or SSP
Combining zinc sulphate with phosphatic fertilizers together in the same bag or broadcasting them at the same time can reduce nutrient availability under certain conditions.
